Trays and Cutting Boards

Trays and Cutting Boards

My husband loves tea. He REALLY loves it. Which means that he drinks a lot of tea during the day. The problem is that my beautiful, white kitchen surface doesn’t love tea at all.

In order to protect the kitchen surface I thought it would be a good idea to have a small tray where hubby can put his cup when making his tea. But not just a tray, but something that looks nice as well, as it will need to become a more or less permanent feature on our kitchen top.

I love Marimekko’s patterns, so that was where are started looking first.

Varvunraita tray seemed perfect: right size (15 x 32 cm) and black & white pattern. And it’s dishwasher-safe!

Rasymatto cutting board is another good option and I love the pattern. This one is dishwasher-safe as well. It’s little bit bigger (24.5 x 34.5 cm), but not too big.

Fokus tray is absolutely beautiful, but the diameter being 46 cm it’s way too big. Also, it doesn’t seem to be dishwasher-safe.

Another favourite brand, Ferm Living, offers great choices as well. This stripy cutting board looks fun, is good size (19.5 x 20.5 cm) and it’s dishwasher-safe.

Semicircle buttering board is a bit smaller option (15 x 20 cm) and that as well is dishwasher-safe.

This serving tray is something completely different, but I do like the combination of stainless steel and white. The diameter is 32 cm, so not bad.

The white serving tray also made me wonder if I really want to have an item that stands out of the surface that much. Ideally I didn’t want anything on the surface, so how about something that is a bit more discreet?

A marble tray like this would look really good, but the problem with marble is that it does get stained easily, so in a week it would probably be ruined.

I do like the look of marble though, so how about fake marble? And the minute I said that to myself, I knew I had stepped right into a DIY trap! Yet another DIY project to take on, and try to finish! But it might be the answer, all I need is a wooden cutting board and marble contact paper.

I’ll get back to you in due course and let you know the final decision 🙂
