How to Design Your Scandinavian Home Without Breaking the Bank

Season's Greetings 2014 - Aaltonen Interiors The start of the festive season is very near now, and I have to admit that I am very excited about it. I love this time of year: the family get-togethers, the food, the presents, the cozy feeling inside while it’s cold and dark outside - everything!   Like every year, the run-up has been absolutely frantic though. There have been cards to write, presents to buy and send... And at the same time of course, the business has been going on.

A Scandinavian Style Upside Down House - Aaltonen Interiors Seeing other people’s houses can be truly inspirational! This summer, when I visited an old friend in Finland, I asked if I could take some pictures of their home. It’s very Scandinavian: lots of light, white walls, clean lines, light coloured wood.

Thanks to the internet, you don’t have to travel all the way to the Nordics in order to buy nice Scandinavian design items. Here is my list of internet shops specialising in Scandinavian design. These are perfect places to look for presents for Christmas for example!

Decorex London 2014 - Aaltonen Interiors Decorex 2014 ("UK’s premier luxury design and interiors show") was in London again in late September. I’ve now had some time to think about all the things I saw, go through my photos and notes. Here are some photos I wanted to share with you.

Have you been watching the show called "Your Home In Their Hands" on BBC1? It’s a show where people leave the keys to their homes to amateur interior designers and let them (re)design three rooms of the house.   As a great admirer of BBC, I have to say I am very disappointed that something like this would be produced by the Corporation. I do realize that this is an easy way of making TV programs, and it’s meant to be entertainment not a documentary, but coming from BBC? Really? Come on guys, I expect so much more from you!

Colour Inspiration for Your Interiors - Aaltonen Interiors After my previous blog, Choosing your colour scheme, I received an email saying that I missed a step: “I’m one of those people who would love to use colour, but my initial problem is that I’m not even sure which colours I like! So before jumping to the colour scheme, I would need help in finding the colours and deciding which ones I like!” Fair enough, I did miss a step. But better late than never! This blog post is for you, Ms C!
